SAN FRANCISCO --- As you may or may not have known, Jeremy Fish's bunny was stolen last week from it's perch on the corner of Haight @Laguna, but don't fret as it was recovered from the thieves in less than 24 hours by the SPBs.

The corner where the bunny rested along with numorous mural works is about to be demolished by Wood Properties, the developers of the Haight and Laguna property as they prepare for construction on the block. But in collaboration with the Haight Street Merchant and Neighbor Association, there are plans (and money has been raised) to contruct a 10 foot high bronze bunny!

Friday the 13th at 6pm, there at the corner of Haight and Laguna, there will be a funeral or sorts for the old bunny along with some people giving speaches about the 55 Laguna developments, Waller park, and the new Haight Street art center, all being built on this location. After that Jeremy Fish will read an eulogy, and thank everybody for helping to make a bronze statue in the Haight. ~complete details

We were sad to learn that the wonderful Guerrero Gallery will be closing their doors after their final show closes on October 1st.

They moved in and remodeled their beautiful 19th St space 3 years ago, and on Saturday, Sept 14th, they will open their last show in the space with works by Ben Venom and Lucien Shapiro... Guerrero writes in a recent emailer, "We are sad to be leaving, but excited for future endeavors. Although we will be closing the doors temporarily, we will continue to move forward with the gallery and will keep everyone informed about our plans to re-open at another location." ~continue reading

We're sorry to hear that 29 year old Australian/ American artist Matt Doust has died from after an epileptic seizure last night. His next show at LA's Thinkspace Gallery opens next week on September 7th. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Perth artist Matt Doust, an Archibald Prize-finalist, has reportedly died at the age of 29. Doust, best known for his large-close-up portrait of actress-model Gemma Ward, died after an epileptic seizure, according to the Los Angeles art gallery where he was due to open a new exhibition next month. Doust had become a favourite of celebrity collectors, with Hollywood stars Jim Carrey and Mickey Rourke among those who have purchased his large, hyper-realistic youthful close-ups and semi-nude paintings. -continue reading

SAN FRANCISCO --- Mark it down in your calendars. Friday, Sept 6th, 111 Minna will celebrate their 20 anniversary with a huge group show with a wide range of works on display... plenty of tasty eye candy on view.

We've been lucky to host 3 of our anniversay shows there over the years (like this one in 2006) and Minna is almost like family. So come out and support the SF art scene with some tasty drinks and talented DJs. Bound to be a fun night.

Maybe you've been to one of our openings where there's a big dude watching the door making sure people behave themselves. Well, that dude's name is Jeremiah, and he's put put togteher a great show worth checking out this Thursday, August 29th (6-9pm) at Free Gold Watch.

Besides the art, Free Gold Watch has over 30 pinball machines and old school arcades games. PBR is a sponsor, so plenty of that stuff to drink and general good times worthy of a visit... Yeah, an arcade in the Upper Haight!!

It's with a heavy heart to announce that we had a floater this morning at FFDG. It looks like "Shark 1" or "Shark 2" (they look the same) has passed away.

We're not sure what did him (or her) in. All we know is that our two shark looking little fish had been hanging in the corner by the heater for the last couple weeks. But it's been warm in the gallery, so heat shouldn't have been a factor. The tank has been clean with plenty of tasty fish flake food for the eatin'... In the end, you know, it doesn't matter. He (or she) has moved on to the art gallery in the sky where small little fish have multiple cubic feet to swim about with plenty of plants to hide behind and plenty of fish flakes to eat, spit out, and eat again.

Only dead fish go with the current.

San Francisco --- NYC chain store Jack Spade allowed to continue construction of their upcoming fancy pants men's boutique in the retail space Adobe Books used to hold until forced out by landlord who doubled their rent.

The SF Board of Appeals failed to get the necessary four votes to overturn Jack Spade's building permits although The Valencia Corridor Merchants Association can file another appeal within the next ten days, and we think SHOULD!

Maybe it's just us, but does our community need a shop to sell us a $145 tshirt or a $700 parka?! Will they "improve" the neighborhood as a few short sighted merchants think they will, or will this just entice other retail and residential landlords to increase rents in the already expensive neighborhood? - For those merchants who supported Jack Spade. I hope your not next to be evicted.

Our favorite quote from Jack Spade's company co-leader Melissa Xides, "We fell in love with the uniqueness of 16th Street... We fell in love with the food scene and gentrification that's happening there." Ya...

How often do you get the chance to view the second largest creature on Earth? That's what we were thinking after learning that an endangered fin whale had beached itself on Stinson Beach yesterday after sustaining some sort of trauma.

The 1 year old whale, which is about half the size of a full grown adult whale, died there on the beach after thrashing about in the morning and taking its last breaths. Members from the Marine Mammal Center performed a necropsy with plans of burying the whale there on the beach. ~details
