We spent a little time floating about on the San Francisco Bay yesterday, and while out there heard/ saw a couple news worthy bits.

UPDATE 11/6: After much silence, the tech giant fesses up on its connection to the uncommon structure in San Francisco Bay, which it's now proclaiming Google Barge

As reported last week, Google is involved in building a very secretive structure at Hanger 3 on Treasure Island, and within the last week have pulled out their privacy fences which have been there for months. All that seems to be left is the shipping container structure sitting on the the barge. Did the stories come out, and Google broke it all down and hit the road with their secrets in tact? --- There was another Google barge spotted in Portland last week too. Floating data centers to be placed outside of US territory?

As heard on the VHF at approx 1:30pm, a sailboat found a dead body of a small woman wearing black shorts by the South Tower of the Golden Gate Bridge floating face up. Considering we've heard other boats report jumpers and bodies over the years, and there's a reported 2 jumpers every month, not sure how news worthy it is... Bummer though.

Well, Banksy's month long experiment with the city of NYC is all but wrapped up... Gotta say that the "Spray Art" booth was his best. That guy from Chicago who bought 4 including the iconic flower molotov piece is sitting pretty. Lovely ~ banksyny.com

In an audio guide accompanying the work (available on Banksy's website), the narrator says Banksy said of his month-long endeavor: "If just one child has been inspired to pick up a can of paint and make some art, that would be statistically disappointing considering how much work I put in."

He also said that if there was one cohesive message from the show, it's that "Outside is where art should live, among us," and that "rather than street art being a fad, maybe the last 1,000 years of art history are a blip, when art came inside in the service of the church and institutions." ~read on

Over the last 10 years or so, we've been using The Harvey Milk Photo Center at Duboce Park. Great resources, quiet lab, kind people, and afforable prices. A hidden gem in San Francisco for sure!

Berlin based Meyoko ('09 interview) emailed over some recent skull illustrations, we dug them and thought we'd share them with you, the Fecal Reader.

Raphael Villet went on a trip with the Oakland band Meat Market to the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas and created a book of his photos from the exploration of the Southwest, a photographic document of the people and places they encountered along the way.

There will be a bok release at Adobe Books on 24th St in the Mission, this Saturday, October 26th at 7 pm. Some Oakland bands are gonna play, a little DJ musical action and Raphael's buddy Rocky will be serving up his awesome fried bread concoctions. ~details.

PARIS --- Bay Area artist Brendan Monroe opens the new show Turning at Paris' L.J. Gallery tonight Oct 22nd.

In continuation of the evolution of his work over the past three years towards a more contemplative world with refined landscapes, almost abstract, Monroe continues to develop the rotational movement in his paintings. Indeed, it is all about movement in his work, which is slow but also active as a reflection of what is happening around us, where things are always a perpetual rotary motion. These Are Not Real Cars, Just a Mind-Bending Optical Illusion <-- Professional model maker and photographer Michael Paul Smith spent the last 25 years making miniature vehicles and photographing them, set in a fictional 1950s American town called Elgin Park. His models are so detailed that when placed in miniature dioramas and photographed using forced perspective, you'll think that they are real vehicles.

SAN FRANCISCO --- Jocko Weyland plays homage to the cassette tape tonight, Friday Oct 11th, at Ever Gold with the opening of "Crackle, Hiss, and Scrawl" - Cassette Tapes, their Wrappings and Listings, 1980-2005.

Visually, for the eyes while the ears soak it all in, every handmade and store bought cover of the approximately 200 cassettes "made" or acquired from roughly 1980 to 2005. These '3-panel' 4×4" tape case inserts with their attendant folded lyric sheets and pleated pieces of paper listing bands and song titles will be arrayed on the walls of the gallery. -PREVIEW
